Abbeywood Community School celebrated a key milestone in the construction of its new classroom block with a special steel signing ceremony

Abbeywood Community School celebrated a key milestone in the construction of its new classroom block with a special steel signing ceremony.

The event, held on site, was hosted by the project’s builders, Morgan Sindall, and marked a moment of pride and progress for the school community. Steel signing ceremonies are a long-standing tradition in the construction industry, often associated with “topping out” celebrations.

Abbeywood Community School Steel Signing

Signing the beam is a symbolic gesture that honours the efforts of everyone involved in the project and brings good fortune to the building’s future. As part of the celebration, three ACS Year 10 students - Robyn Bartlett, Oscar Evans, and Temi Emmanuel - were invited to take part. Robyn will be completing work experience with Morgan Sindall in the next few weeks and Temi and Oscar are studying engineering.

The students had the opportunity to sign the steel beam themselves, leaving their mark on a project that will benefit future generations of Abbeywood learners. 3 3 27th June 2025 www.olympus
