Online Safety
At Olympus Trust we are committed to keeping our learners safe and well in their online lives. We recognise the important role our schools play in this but also our parent/guardian community.
We are running a project to support and educate parents/guardians about online safety and the practical things they can do to help their child.
Most Olympus School DSLs met together last term with Katherine Howard from Smoothwall to discuss our involvement in this exciting new project.
We would like to invite all Olympus schools to take part in this project. It consists of 3 elements and I have included full information below for those that did not attend the information meeting.
- Parental workshop
Your parents will be invited to a workshop help them understand the risks their children face in their online lives and the practical things they can do to help them.
Katherine Howard, Head of Community and Wellbeing at Smoothwall will give parents the guidance on the latest apps and games and other content children are exposed to. The workshop will also include information on a brand new Olymus branded Online Safety Hub for parents and the launch of an online parental control app called Qustodio. The link to the Olympus site is here: https://olympustrust.onlinesafetyhub.uk/parent/home
- Online Safety Hub
The Online Safety Hub is a dedicated online resource that will provide parents with an abundance of expert advice and guidance on managing their child's digital safety. All resources are curated by expert child safeguarding specialists and include information on risks children may be exposed to online, the latest trends and topics parents should be aware of, plus lots more.
- Qustodio - online parental control app
Qustodio is an app for parents to help keep their child safe online. It gives greater visibility and control over what their child is seeing/doing online. Features include filtering harmful content, setting time-limits and screen-free schedules, visibility on browsing history, monitoring calls and messages for suspicious activity and tailored reports and alerts for inappropriate content.
Qustodio carries a small annual charge but we are making it available for parents to try it out for no charge.
We would like as many schools as possible to join this student digital safety initiative.
