Grace Coles, Teaching Assistant
From Student Mentor to SEN Teaching Assistant
I was working in Retail (a shoe shop, which I loved!) whilst studying for my A levels at Winterbourne Academy.
Whilst in Sixth Form I was mentoring children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and I offered to continue doing this once I left school.
I was taken up on that offer, however there was also a job going at the same time so I applied. I was appointed very soon after interview and started within a couple of weeks.
“The students inspire me because they make every day different”
I started learning by shadowing other Teaching Assistants and sharing good practice. I am also supported by the SENCO, Deputy SENCO and Assistant SENCO.
I feel motivated in my role, I look forward to going to work every day because I feel that I am making a difference to the experience of education for some students. The students inspire me because they make every day different. I enjoy watching them face new challenges and be successful, seeing them achieve is the most rewarding part of my job.
