SLEs are highly effective middle or senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals and/or teams in other schools.
The role is designed to help improve the quality of school leadership and teaching via school-to-school support and peer learning, ultimately raising standards and improving outcomes for children.
As a SLE you’ll be deployed into schools to develop the leadership capacity, using coaching and/or facilitation that draws on the knowledge and expertise in your area of specialism. This can involve diagnostic visits, developing action plans, one-to-one support, coaching/mentoring, or signposting resources and training.
The role is not remunerated but you will receive bespoke training on how to deliver effectively in other schools if you are successful at the interview stage.
“The SLE role has helped me to widen my experience outside my own school, enabling me to offer support, guidance and to help colleagues in different contexts. It also enhances my own school as I pick up golden nuggets of information along the way.” North Somerset SLE
“I was hesitant to release one of my middle leaders as part of the SLE role but with the benefit of hindsight I genuinely feel that the learning experience has benefitted our school as much as the schools they‘ve worked with.” Bristol Headteacher
